Eoin Morgan has kept his place in the England squad for the first test against Pakistan at Trent Bridge starting on Thursday as selectors named a 12-man squad edging out Ravi Bopara despite his back-to-back centuries in a recent game with Yorkshire.
Middlesex seamer Steven Finn returns to the England squad following a successful Test Series against Bangladesh as does Yorkshire's Ajmal Shahzad who is looking to build on his Test debut from the same series.
All-rounder Paul Collingwood and paceman Stuart Broad are back after being rested for the Bangladesh test series. Batsman Ian Bell is still recovering from a broken bone in his foot. "Ian Bell's untimely foot injury during the NatWest Series was obviously a disappointing blow but he is now focused on his rehabilitation and should make a full recovery in due course,” National Selector, Geoff Miller, said in a media release.
“Ian's absence provides other batsmen with the chance to impress against a world class Pakistan bowling attack," Miller added. "We have picked a very strong squad for the first Test against a Pakistan side that will be high on confidence following their recent win against Australia.”
Pakistan will take on England after ending a long losing run against Australia with a three-wicket victory at Headingley on Saturday to square the series 1-1.
