Controversy's favourite child, Pakistani pace ace Shaoib Akhtar has always consulted his doctor friend Tauseef Razaq whenever the former has undergone any medical treatment in Pakistan or abroad.
However, when Akhtar recently underwent liposuction cosmetic surgery, he didn't pay heed to his friend's advice of not undergoing the liposuction. This was revealed by Dr. Tauseef Razzaq. "I was against Shoaib undergoing the liposuction surgery, as it was not needed, but he acted against my advice," said Razzaq
Contrary to earlier media reports, wherein Dr. Waqar Ahmed, the Dy. Director General, Pakistan Sports Board, had suggested that the rehabilitation period for Akhtar would be three to five months, the latter is likely to be in action within a month's time. "Shoaib is likely to be match-fit within four weeks' time", Dr. Razzaq further added.
Questioning Dr. Ahmed's claim, Dr. Razzaq said that healing of bones after a major orthopedic surgery takes around six to eight weeks and Shoaib had only undergone a "minor procedure" to remove excess fat from his body.
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes fat from many different sites on the human body. Areas affected can range from the abdomen, thighs and buttocks, to the neck, backs of the arms and elsewhere.
It is not known whether Akhtar is a regular smoker, but if so, he has to be extra cautious as this habit may result in nicotine interfering with circulation and can ultimately cause loss of tissues. The suctioned fat cells from Shoaib's body are permanently gone. However, if he does not maintain a proper diet and exercise regimen, the remaining fat cell neighbors could still enlarge, creating irregularities. Shoaib Akhtar has lost about 12-13 kilogram of weight after the liposuction, it has been learnt.
