Pakistan domestic cricket devastates yet again

The fifth rounder of the the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy - Pakistan's premier domestic tournament could be upset after the recent blast in Rawalpindi - killed at least 24 people and dozen injured. Several players are reluctant to play their matches – which are scheduled to be played in the Khan Research Laboratory Stadium in Rawalpindi and Marghazar Ground, Islamabad.

“We are also not feeling safe, since the incident location is near to our hotel,” a player said on condition of anonymity. “Our families are insisting us to scrap the match and return home after the Rawalpindi Blast.”

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier shifted four matches of the Trophy to other cities and later in view of the prevailing situation and security concern in Peshawar forced to reschedule more matches. “We wanted to play cricket but we request PCB to reschedule our match immediately,” player added.

Habib Bank of Pakistan (HBL) are to play Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) at Marghazar Ground which is not far away from Rawalpindi and both contain some prolific players like Imran Nazir, Abdul Razzaq, Sohail Tanvir, Wajahatullah Wasti, Shahid Yousuf, wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider, Taufeeq Umar, Hasan Raza, Danish Kaneria, Humayun Farhat – brother of Imran Farhat and left arm spinner Abdur Rehman.

Whereas Khan Research Laboratory (KRL) to compete with Sui Northern Gas Limited (SNGPL) at their home ground KRL Stadium featuring the likes of Azhar Ali, Yasir Arafat, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez, Samiullah Khan, Adnan Akmal youger brother of Umer and Kamran Akmal, Bazid Khan – son of former Pakistan captain Majid Khan, Mohammad Wasim and veteran batsman Saleem Elahi.
