Pakistan's another opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez hopeful to retain his place back into the squad despite a tough competition for the opening slot. Former Sui Northern Gas of Pakistan (SNGPL) captain Hafeez praised his team mate Umar Akmal – who is now the vital part of Pakistan national team, and believes if Akmal is given a consistent chance he will be proved best for the interest of Pakistan.

“He is an exciting player to watch even whole cricketing world has admired his technique and ofcourse he has guts too,” Hafeez told Cricdb “I always have high feeling for him, he infact has all the attributes – which are supposed to be in a complete batsman. He fights hard and stay dominant in the middle as a batsman ,” added Hafeez.

“These[above quoted] are the things which required in a batsman and I hope Umar will maintain his current form and attitude. I believe if he is given a consistent chance he definitely will play for a long period and give his best,” said Hafeez – who scored a half-century on his Test debut against Bangladesh, followed by a Test century.

Hafeez, 29, in recent months surprisingly had been removed from the Pakistan 'A' team for the matches against Sri Lanka 'A' during the Pakistan A team tour of Australia – on which he was the captain. He was not only removed from the role for the forthcoming series but also removed from the squad.

“Selectors have their own mind – according to which they select whoever and whenever, but I am always hopeful for my comeback – for which I am doing my handwork from last two years,” said Hafeez – who was sharing his thoughts after his name was once again ignored for the for the upcoming series against New Zealand.

“I am fit and adjusted myself for every form[Test, ODI, T20] of cricket,” he said, when asked about his plan of quitting any form of cricket to concentrate any one of it. “If you maintain your fitness level, you can play trio form of cricket. If you see Test cricket – which requires fitness and my fit for it, I am capable of playing big shot so I am suited for the ODI and T20 cricket more important I am good field and is a useful bowler as well. So I don't think I should quit Test and concentrate another two (forms of cricket) or quit two forms (ODI and T20) focus on Test cricket.”

In recent months several players – who have decided to quit longer format of game to focus the shorter form in a bid to prolong their career. “I think such situation comes when players get into 36 - 37 (age), then they think about to concentrate any one form of the game but in my case I am fit and maintain my fitness very well therefore I am ready to play any form of cricket,” said Hafeez – who sees his cricket career for another 8-9 years.

Hafeez, 29, still associated with the Indian Premier League (IPL), bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for $100,000 and was the captain the Pakistan domestic departmental team Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) – who won the Quaid-e-Azam trophy in 2008 and later led the same team against Ranji champions Delhi in the Mohammad Nissar Trophy in India to won the tournament for the first time in the three-year history.
