The Chinese women's cricket team is arriving in India early next week. This was revealed by Shahriar Khan, the media official, Asian Cricket Council (ACC). "The Chinese women's team has been invited by the former BCCI president and now ICC principal advisor, I. S. Bindra"
"The team is one of immense talent and potential and will serve as tremendous ambassadors for China’s cricket. They are all very much looking forward to visit their first cricketing superpower", he further added.
The India-bound squad will be staying in Mohali for a period of three week, revealed Shubhangi Kulkarni, the ACC development official. Elaborating more, she added, "because of the lack of the game's exposure in China, the girls will be shown video clips related to the game and made acquainted with the cricket culture of India."
Interestingly, former Indian woman cricketer, Mamtha Maben, is coaching the chinese women team and will be accompanying the team on this tour. It was on the BCCI's recommendation that Maben was appointed as the Chinese women's team coach.
"Maben is contractually bound with the team till November 2010, when the team coached by her takes part in the Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou in China", Kulkarni further added.
The first time Chinese women cricketers making their international debut was in September 2006 in a Sixes game against Scotland in Shanghai, losing by 59 runs. However, the side was not recognised by the Chinese Cricket Association as the official team. The official Chinese National Women Team was incepted in May 2007.
Surprisingly, the Chinese team would not be able to interact with its Indian counter part as the Indian women players will be busy playing in the domestic circuit. "The Chinese team would watch the Champions League match in Delhi before heading to Mohali", added Maben.
